Books
Showcase of books i've read, with rating and review. Coming from my Goodreads shelf.
This book had me quit instagram and with it doomscrolling. Was also the catalyst of self hosting movies & photos.

A must read. Having a look into the diaries of the most powerful man in the world of ancient rome, never intended to be read by anyone expect himself. I'd advise anyone to not go into this thinking to read a philosophers' words, or get self-help advise from an former emperor. You decide whether these diary entries resonate with you. If they don't that's totally fine. For me, this is a book I keep coming back to time and time again. One of my favorites.

I did not read Homers Oddyseus, however i did read Illiad and Mythos before this. I keep coming back to Stephen Fry’s books and writing style.

Insanely dense and abstract. Had to research a lot to get enough context on her reasoning and examples.

Absolutely ridiculous how relevant a 2000 year old letters from a Roman exile are in modern times. I copied some paragraphs into ChatGPT for explanation and modern times examples which really helped me understand them better. Loved this book from cover to cover. Give it time. Don’t read it in one sitting. Let it simmer in your mind, there’s a lot of wisdom in here.

Favorite “Roman”. Sue me

Making a book on the philosophy of time so hard to put down is absolutely marvellous. I believe everyone who reads this, will get something out of it.

There were passages in the book that deeply struck me for their relevance in 2024. However, i also felt that a lot of the pages went over my head. The lessons on stillness, and on accepting of something bigger than oneself made it well worth the read.

The way of writing, although it seems chaotic and sometimes inconsistent, resonates with me deeply.Read this short book in a couple of days, didn’t make too many notes.

To me this is a story of a seemingly regular guy, albeit emotionally very dull, who has fate very much against him. But, not in the more popularly depicted ways of one big event being against you. It’s all these unimportant small little actions and events that accumulate. Absolutely loved reading this book and had to really pace myself from not reading it cover to cover, but instead read it chapter by chapter.

Enjoyed it as a (long) introduction to Buddhism, but the constant repetition in almost every paragraph almost annoyed me whilst reading the pages. Felt like, because of this, i started skimming pages instead of reading them, let alone studying them (which, is what i think you must do in order to get a good understanding of the teachings and appreciate the book for what it truly is). I could not appreciate it for what it was. Therefor. Bad rating booooo

I find myself defaulting to a 5 star rating on anything Ryan Holiday writes. This is no exception. I almost felt his struggle in finding examples, be it Gehrig or the Queen. However, their chosen absolutely perfect and helped me understand the importance of the virtue of self-discipline. A must read in my opinion, as is this entire series on ancient virtues.

This book is filled with great insights and knowledge and written in a style, to be understood by everyone. Loved it
